Current/Active Projects:

Exploratory Analysis of Primate Hand and Foot Digit Proportions

This semester, I’ll be completing a stats-focused independent study with the objective of conducting a preliminary analysis of an unused autopod digit length dataset given to me by the Boyer Lab at Duke University. The aim of the project is to enhance our understanding of the evolution of hand and foot proportions in primates and exploring potential covariation between the two. Studying the relationship between hand and foot proportions will allow us to better understand the process of hand and foot differentiation in primates.

The initial phase will focus on performing morphometric and evolutionary analyses of these proportions. In the second phase, the evolutionary relationships among species will be considered by employing phylogenetically informed methods in my analysis.

The first month of this project will be focused on literature reviews of readings of studies focused on primate evolution, such as "The Evolution of Human and Ape Hand Proportions" (Sergio Almecija, et al.) and "First Anatomical Network Analysis of Fore- and Hindlimb Musculoskeletal Modularity in Bonobos, Common Chimpanzees, and Humans" (Rui Diogo, et al.). Depending upon completion of phases one and two, additional taxa may be measured and incorporated into the sample.
